Today I was reading on Shawn Colvin's FB page a reference to the painter Paul Sérusier. He has been a fascination of mine for a long time. He studied with Paul Gauguin and has a famous painting called "Talisman" in which it was reported Sérusier followed Gauguin's advice:   "How do you see these trees? They are yellow. So, put in yellow; this shadow, rather blue, paint it with pure ultramarine; these red leaves? Put in vermilion". I had decided to try my hand at following that advice and painted one of my favorites that I have done. Painted in Western New York, near Sodus Point on Lake Ontario. I was driving my car and saw this in my rear view mirror! I can't think of my painting without immediately remembering and crediting Sérusier and Gauguin. Another from the same period called the "Road to Geneva" on the Susquehanna River, near Liverpool, PA (Route 15)
